Let's Celebrate

Sunday, February 21, 2016

It's Stencil Sunday!  And just a quick reminder about our current Mixed Media Challenge before I get into my tag details.

Would love to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month.  As always, it's an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece...tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc....anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

Thought it would be fun to play with a black tag today and show you how to add some color.  Not all mediums will show up, but some work really well.  I started off by using some acrylic paint through my ARTplorations Confetti Circles stencil in a deep turquoise color.  Once that was dry, I added some Inka Gold in a pink shade through my Bubbles stencil. Next I added some crackle paste through my Happy Flowers stencil.  Impatience caused me to dry it with a heat just a couple of large crackles appeared. I added some color to the flowers with m PITT artist pens...just scribbled on the color and then spread it around with my finger.

Added a little banner sentiment from STAMPlorations Balloons and Banners (that's one of the Dee's Artsy Impressions designs) and a bit of ribbon to finish off the tag.

More play time :)

I've stenciled just the bottom of the card with Finnabair's Chicken Wire stencil and some navy ink. Next I die cut the leaves from Hero Arts...again in navy.

The floral image is called French Marigold Large and it's from STAMPlorations.  It was stamped in Cobalt Archival ink and then just loosely watercolored with Distress Inks.  Then it was fussy cut and popped up on some foam tape.

The sentiment is from STAMPlorations Hope Blooms...I love the funky curly cues around the"L"! My usual smattering of sequins and done!

Saw the Card Concept Challenge today and just had to play along.  Love the colors, love the flowers...and decided to do a "classy and elegant" design.

This gorgeous set from Wplus9 is called Beautiful Bouquets, Ranunculus.  The flowers and sentiment are heat embossed in white.  I've used Distress Inks and Zig Clean Color pens to do my watercoloring.  A smattering of sequins and done!

Pop Splat Sploosh

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

So call me crazy, but when I got this new set called Color My World from WPlus9, the first thing I thought of was making a mess!  I thought of the paint going pop, splat, sploosh!  Lucky don't get to visit my messy studio...sometimes there are indeed bits of this...blobs of that...I am such a messy artist.

Added a bit of paper to the bottom of the card to anchor the design...and there's Glossy Accents on the little paint blobs and on the tube of paint.

A quick and easy CAS card today...back soon with more...

Toni's Birthday

Friday, February 12, 2016

A birthday card for my sweet cousin, Toni.

I've heat embossed the flowers from Altenew's Persian Motifs in gold and then just loosely watercolored with some Distress Inks.  When it was dry I added some splashes of Peerless Transparent Gold watercolor.  This is a one layer card using Arches 140# cold pressed paper.

A simple sentiment from Altenew's Superscript 2 and a smattering of fun iridescent white beads and sequins from Little Things from Lucy's Cards.  That little heart is actually iridescent but shows up pink on my of those little things that make you go hmmm????

Theirs Was An Old Love

Thursday, February 11, 2016

My Tim's Tag for the month of February.  It looks nothing like his really, but that's ok!  It's where my mind and my hands took me.

He used the monoprint technique for his background and so did I with my Burlap stencil, but it's very subtle.

After choosing my picture from the Photobooth pack, it made me think of old love, vintage love, someone who's been together forever, so that's where I headed.

The heart was made with a Pocket Card and the Heart Wings die, then I folded it in half and cut it down to a smaller heart.  It's been crumpled, inked and distressed.  The little "heart" token has been partially covered with Tarnished Bronze Distress Paint and heat set to look like something old.

I dyed some seam binding with the same colors used throughout the tag...Victorian Velvet and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.  I've also used some Small Talk stickers like he used on his tag. And heat embossed the background in gold using the Love Struck set.

Here's Tim's tag for the month:

Stencil Sunday and Mixed Media Challenge - Bloom

Sunday, February 7, 2016

Hello, it's time for another Stencil Sunday project and mixed media challenge.

The background to my tag was made by adding some Inka Gold paste and some Distress Inks to a craft sheet and misting with water before dragging the tag through it.  It was thoroughly dried before I sprayed my Flower Burst LARGE stencil with some Dylusions Ink Spray and then turned it over onto the tag.  It's more of a subtle way to use a large stencil.  Next I colored a piece of Prima wood with some black ink and stamped the sentiment in black.  Then I added a button center to the flower.  A matching bow completes the tag.

Check out what the rest of the design team has made to inspire you right here. Cannot wait to see what you make!  Just a gentle reminder...this is not a card's anything BUT a card.

Negative Painting

Thursday, February 4, 2016

More homework from my Watercolor for Cardmakers Intermediate Techniques class.  This, like the other techniques from this class, requires a lot of practice.  I'm getting there...just need to spend more time practicing.

Cannot begin to tell you how amazing this class many fabulous techniques by the instructors. And let me just say...Dawn Woleslagle from WPlus9 is an amazing artist as well as instructor!

Here's a link to the class if you are interested.

I've used Arches 140# cold pressed paper with M. Graham and Winsor & Newton Professional watercolors.  The leaves are from Technique Tuesday Give Thanks and the sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp's Square Sayings.

Variegated Watercolor Wash

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

I'm working my way through the On-Line Card Classes Intermediate Watercolor Techniques class. Can I just say?...the instructors are amazing....

This is the start of my homework...and I am a tad lot behind!

Just happened to stumble upon some M. Graham watercolors at one of our local framing shops. They are creamy and just yummy to work with.  I've used Quinacridone Violet, Quinacridone Rose and Nickel Quinacridone Gold with Arches 140# cold pressed watercolor paper.

Now this is version number 7,254...those girls make it look took me a while to get the hang of this technique.

Once my panel was dry, die cut and ready to mount on my card base...good golly Miss Molly...where the heck did that smudge of ink come from???  Prima flower to the rescue!  So had to add a couple of flat-backed pearls too. FYI, the sentiment is from STAMPlorations Art Is stamp set.

I love how the colors really looks like a beautiful Saskatchewan sunrise:)

Deepti Popped Blog Hop

Monday, February 1, 2016

Yes, we have a new little addition to the STAMPlorations team to celebrate!  Congrats to Deepti and Vikas on the arrival of their son, Siddharth!  And what better way to celebrate than with a blog hop. Check out all the details right here.

The background of my card has been made with the Oh My Stars! ARTplorations stencil.  I've used a stencil monoprint technique and then stamped some stars from Deepti's Balloons and Banners set. The balloons and hearts are from the same set.  There's some white Wink of Stella on the balloons. I've also paper pieced a coffee cup from Sketchy Coffee Cups and grounded it with a stamp from the Mixed Media Elements set.  The sentiment is computer generated.

The linky will be open for two weeks so you can join in the fun.

Again, big congrats, Deepti!  Can't wait to see a picture of your sweet little one!

February Mixed Media Card Challenge

Hello, my creative lovelies!  It's time for another Mixed Media Card Challenge!  And here's our theme for the month of February:

The challenges run from the 1st to the 25th of each month, with the winners announced on the last day of the month.  To play along, simply create a mixed media card and enter it at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Be sure to check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team!  So much inspiration!

New to mixed media?  Just combine two or more mediums on your card.  So many choices: watercolor, gesso, acrylics, distress inks, pencils, crayons, Copics, other inks and on and on...

Using three red shades of Distress Inks, I inked up my stencil and made a monoprint background on some watercolor paper.  I created a tutorial for Splitcoaststampers if you need some help with this technique.  Next I stamped an old PSX image randomly across the paper with some Archival Ink and embossed the card front with a Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Rectangle die.

I blended three shades of Gelatos to create an ombre effect on some resist canvas from Prima. And die cut it.  I also used some Ellen Hutson craft-a-board and cut it out again...this creates some stability to add it to the card.  Then the edge of the heart was inked with a PITT artist pen.

Next I die cut the wings in some white card stock, added some liquid snow to create texture and then covered it with Matte Multi Medium before covering it with some clear rock candy Distress Glitter.

Here are some close ups:

Can't wait to see what you create for the challenge this month!
